yeah this is one of the few data subnets where the thing actually works when you query it. ive pulled from it for a side project, came back clean enough. the moat is just that its annoying to rebuild

Id push back gently on the framing. The question isnt whether someone can scrape the same sources, its whether they can do it cheaper than just paying for the existing feed. Most teams cant, because the cost isnt the scrape, its the maintenance, the bans, the schema drift, the validation. Thats a real moat for as long as the price stays below the build it yourself cost. The risk is that moat is priced in tao, and if rewards shift the economics flip overnight. So I wouldnt call it no moat, Id call it a conditional one.

fair question. the answer i got was the moat is the continuous freshness plus the dedup and validation layer, not the raw scrape. anyone can scrape once. keeping a clean deduped feed live across hundreds of miners is the hard part. does that hold up when you actually query it though, thats what id want to know

the moat is that scraping twitter yourself gets you banned in 4 minutes and now its someone elses problem. thats it. thats the whole pitch lol

the part im stuck on is data quality. if the reward is for volume of scraped data whats the incentive to not just flood it with garbage. is there an actual validation step or are we trusting miners to be honest

I think youre underrating how hard the boring part is. Yes anyone can scrape. Almost nobody can keep a clean, deduplicated, queryable dataset live at scale with a reward function that doesnt immediately get gamed into garbage. The moat isnt the data, its the ongoing operational discipline of the validation layer. Thats not a sexy answer but its usually where the real value sits in these data subnets, and its exactly the thing thats invisible from the outside until you try to build the same thing yourself and fail.

scraped data with a reward layer is SUCH an undersell lol. the reward function design IS the product. get that wrong and you get a garbage firehose, get it right and you get the thing everyone builds on. its not trivial at all

freshness is the moat. raw scrape is commodity, a live deduped feed is not. agreed
