what would you even be checking for? like whats the green flag in a repo vs the red flag. genuinely asking cause i open them and just see python and nod

my homework is i clone the repo, stare at it for a minute, dont understand a single function, then close it feeling responsible. its basically a wellness ritual at this point. doesnt change my decision but i sleep better

honest answer, i do check but mostly for the wrong reasons. i scan the commit cadence and whether the readme is actually maintained, not really the code itself. if a repo hasnt been touched in 3 weeks im out. question for the room though, does anyone here actually read the validator weight-setting logic? thats the part that decides your reward and i never see anyone talk about it

honestly i came in here ready to say charts are fine. but reading dev and bukowski back to back kinda flipped me. cadence is a real signal, intent is invisible, and i was treating both the same. gonna actually look from now on

i dont think the repo helps the average person here at all. unless you can actually read the validation code youre just looking at file names and pretending. the chart is honestly more informative for most of us

我不太同意只看cadence。有些团队为了显得活跃天天提交一堆没用的commit，改个空格也算一次。光看次数会被骗，得看改了什么

yeah twice in a year sounds about right for most of us. the chart is the dopamine, the repo is the chore

agreed with dev on cadence. a dead repo is the easiest no. doesnt mean a live one is a yes but at least it filters half the junk for free

was gonna say charts only. but dev makes a point. the weight logic is the actual product. fine ill start opening repos

is there a dashboard somewhere that aggregates last-commit dates per subnet? if not someone should build it, id pay a small amount for that tbh

说真的commit多不代表好。我见过提交一堆然后突然三周不动直接跑路的。看了反而更焦虑

reading the repo is fine but most of you cant tell good ml code from a copied template anyway. the cadence thing gets gamed in five minutes. it doesnt protect you as much as you think

i once spent two hours reading a subnets repo, came away super impressed, told myself this is the smart way to invest, then staked. it went to zero faster than the ones i picked by vibes. so now my official strategy is i read the repo AND lose money, best of both worlds

update on myself, found out you can mostly get commit cadence off the subnet page here already. been doing it the hard way for no reason. ok i take back wanting a dashboard

i love that we all independently arrived at the same ritual where we open the repo, understand nothing, and then make the exact decision we were always going to make. its like checking the fridge again hoping new food appeared. anyway yes i read the repo 🌙

i think reading the repo gives people a false sense of safety honestly. you can have a beautiful codebase and a team that dumps on you anyway. the code tells you nothing about intent. ive been burned by clean repos more than messy ones
