In fairness to the projects, some of them do have real external revenue and simply have no agreed format to report it in, so they publish whatever their dashboard happens to compute. The absence of a shared definition hurts the honest ones roughly as much as it shelters the rest. A one page disclosure template with three lines on it would settle more of this than any amount of arguing in threads.
