talkhead generating talking-head video from audio is in the uncanny-valley-or-magic zone. tested it, and for a decentralized effort the lip-sync is better than i expected, not broadcast-ready, but way past 'obviously fake'. the ethics of this getting good are a separate and large conversation, but the tech is moving.
the ethics conversation is the one that'll define whether this stays a tool or becomes a weapon. 'past obviously fake' is exactly the threshold where it starts mattering. glad someone's building it in the open rather than only behind closed doors, at least it's auditable.
the auditable-because-open point matters more than people think for this tech. deepfake-adjacent capability behind closed doors is a black box you have to trust; the same thing in the open is at least inspectable, and inspectability is the only real check we have on misuse right now.
